How a cover happens
A cover cannot be bought
No sponsorship, no paid placement, no agency pitch. The desk chooses, and the only way onto a cover is to have done something the desk thinks the profession should look at.
One profile, written for it
Every cover carries a single long profile commissioned specifically for that issue. It is reported — sources are spoken to, and the piece is not a Q&A.
The subject sees nothing first
No copy approval, no quote approval, no sight of the cover before publication. Factual corrections only, and they are published with a date.
